I’m loving how Nintendo is bringing back old games and consoles. In the last Nintendo direct which is their primary way for announcing products, right at the end, they announced Zelda Link’s Awakening remake for the Switch. The overwhelming joy was indescribable and I didn’t know why. I have never played the game before and I’m pretty sure whoever did are more excited than me. The idea of bringing back old games by itself is cool in so many ways. First of all, it’s really hard to find old consoles/games unless you are willing to spend a lot of money on them. And giving a new life by updating the graphics is pretty sweet. Not to mention this is not any game. it’s Zelda! All the Zelda games are fantastic. Some are better than others but still, all in all, they are the best compared to other game series.
One of the games I wish Nintendo would remake (that I have played) is the Pilot Wings series. I loved this game growing up. It was different and fresh. I didn’t have to shoot or race someone. Just pure flying bless. Other games like EarhBound, Excitebike, Metroid and many more would be an awesome addition. Companies like Sony have tried to do the same and failed miserably. For example, the PlayStation Classic didn’t generate much hype. Personally, I think it was a flop. After a month from its release, Sony slashed the price from $99.99 to $49.99. It could be due to the abysmal preloaded games or simply the lack of the overall secret recipe that Nintendo is well known for.
Let’s talk about the Switch for a second! The Switch brought the company from a sinking ship into a profit success. With hits like Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bro, It is outperforming the failed Wii U and it was the best-selling console ever in the US in 2018. Combing old games or better still remaking them with the Switch is pure magic. Nintendo is sitting on a gold mine. The dream is to remake all the legendary masterpieces that I have never played.
